Background Information: wiki link

Personality:
At first glance, it wouldn't be difficult to assume Noel Vermillion is not suited for her role of the heroine in her canon. She's an extremely shy and meek girl, the type who often cries, will always try to stay out of the way of other people and keeps apologizing for everything, her very existence included. For the most part, she tends to be really harsh on herself: she believes herself to be not good enough, often comparing herself to other people, and can be easily put down by the critique of others, something that makes her incredibly vulnerable to her (now former) superior, Jin Kisaragi's cruel treatment of her. She's clumsy and feels nervous just interacting with about anyone, which only leads to her coming off as even more helpless than she really is. It's to the point where she prefers shopping online rather than going to the store, simply because it spares her the anxiety she'd experience during face-to-face interactions with the clerks.

Despite the above, it can't be said she gives in to despair; sure, there are times when she sees the world as bleak, but for most part, she does her best to remain as optimistic as the situation allows it and keep on smiling. Although people often make her feel anxious or outright scared, the girl doesn't completely shut herself from them; on the contrary, she's open to others, always willing to at least attempt to help them out even if she doesn't know them. After all, she's a kind and gentle girl, not to mention very polite on top of that (even when not necessary). For all her insecurities, Noel is nothing if not a hard worker; she always tries her best for the sake of people she cares for, especially her family and friends. In fact, the reason why she enrolled in the Military Academy was to help her adoptive parents financially, and with that goal in mind, she would often push herself to her limits, like when she decided not to visit them for holidays but remained at school to study instead. She values them greatly and is grateful for taking her in, which drives her to do everything in her power to repay for their kindness. Likewise, she's always determined to do whatever she can for her dear friends, Tsubaki Yayoi and Makoto Nanaya in particular. While she may not be the bravest person in the world, if it's for their sake, Noel wouldn't think twice to fight or risk her life. Such was the case when she faced her fears to obtain the power necessary for saving Tsubaki. Hurting her loved ones is also one of the easiest ways to anger her, sometimes even pushing her to use violence, even though normally she prefers to avoid conflict.

One could think a person as unsure of herself as Noel is stands little chance on the battlefield, but they couldn't be more wrong. Noel is a very determined individual, and can hold her own in a battle, on top of being a very skilled fighter. In the past, thanks to her Nox Nycrotes weapon, which subdued most of her emotions during a battle, she was able to perform with deadly precision without any fear or hesitation, to the point where she would sometimes almost completely blanks out during a fight. The downside of it was that she'd grown heavily dependent on Bolverk, believing she can only be strong thanks to its influence, and losing it could lead to her losing what little amount of confidence she could muster. However, since her feelings have broken the emotions limiter provided by Bolverk, its influence on her seems to have decreased substantially, and she no longer relies on her weapon quite as much as she used to.

Even so, she's still quite an emotionally fragile person who struggles to accept herself. The main cause for it is that Noel is not actually human, but rather a Dimensional Boundary Interface Prime Field Device─ an artificial creation meant for the exploration of a world where people could not survive and, ultimately, a weapon supposed to kill the god. Upon finding out the truth behind her existence, Noel was initially devastated and broke down, which in turn gave birth to her Mu-12 persona; after letting herself become consumed by anger and hatred towards the entire mankind and the world as a whole, she grew similar to other Prime Field Devices: responding to commands in robotic tone and blindly following orders without second thought. She aimed to destroy the world, believing a doll like her is despised by everyone. However, Ragna's sacrifice that brought her back to her senses has begun the transformation of her views on the subject; that, combined with her determination to save a friend, has caused her to finally face the feelings she'd denied at first and ended up accepting that Mu-12 is, in fact, herself. Thanks to those experiences, Noel has begun to understand her origins do not determine her worth, and even managed to build up some self-confidence. However, even with that in mind, there are still times when she might slip into her emotionless, destruction-focused persona under certain circumstances, especially when already in a stressful or otherwise depressing situation. Additionally, having recently fused with Hades Izanami and Saya parts of herself, their speaking habits sometimes shine through (such as when she starts referring to Ragna as her brother), though without major changes to her personality.

Despite being originally created as what is basically a weapon of mass destruction, Noel is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and that's putting it mildly. She can be almost comically naive, not to mention blissfully unaware of what's going on around her. The most notable example is her infamously bad cooking, which is terrible enough to knock a person off their feet and leave them sick for at least a week─ and yet, despite witnessing the results of her doing, Noel never figures out she's the problem (and no one wants to hurt her feelings by telling her the truth). It isn't the only thing she can get almost stupidly excitable about, either: she loves cute things, especially if they're fluffy (like Makoto's tail) and even more so if they're pandas. Just seeing something adorable (or better yet, getting to touch or pet it) is sure to brighten her mood immediately. She also enjoys writing (tragically terrible) poems, and while she's too shy to show them to anyone, she doesn't seem to be aware of how bad they are. Moreover, Noel possesses quite an overactive imagination and can easily jump to the most ridiculous conclusion without decisive proof. That's not where the more humorous aspects of her character end, either; among many of her insecurities is one that concerns her, ah, underdeveloped chest area. Making fun of it or even pointing it out can usually lead to her either growing severely depressed and crying, or terminating the guilty party on the spot. She has priorities, you see.

Abilities & Inventory:
  • Artificial soldier: While she might not look the part, Noel is a trained soldier, and one highly-skilled in combat. She's fast, nimble and well-versed in what can only be described as gun fu, and can be a formidable opponent in spite of her small physical build. She's also an artificially created weapon, and while her body still consists of blood and bones like any normal human, she has been programmed with abilities such as scanning targets to estimate their combat abilities or herself to determine the damage done to her, scanning the area around her in search of living creatures or hostiles and recording information to her database.

  • Ars Magus: To someone not familiar with it, Ars Magus may look like magic, but the truth is it's actually a combination of that and technology, developed due to the fact humans couldn't grasp magic in its pure form. To perform an ars, one needs to become acquainted with a specific grimoire, after which they can use it anytime. Most people could use ars given a proper grimoire, but the efficiency varies from one person to another. Noel is said to have very high armagus aptitude (the highest among the students of the Military Academy, actually), which means she can perform ars with much better effects than most people. Ars can be used in many different ways, such as concealing one's presence, sealing or opening the door, healing, offense, creating a hammerspace to keep one's things in and many, many others.

  • Nox Nyctores - Arcus Diabolus: Bolverk: Nox Nyctores causality weapons are a set of weapons created about a hundred years prior to the events of Calamity Trigger, during the Dark War, for the purpose of fighting the Black Beast. Each of them was made using thousands of human souls. Not only are they powerful on their own, but they also subdue their wielders' emotions that would be "unnecessary" in the battlefield, such as fear or compassion, causing them to become far more ruthless and violent, as they no longer feel any remorse, nor are they afraid of losing their lives. Not everyone can use a Nox Nycrotes-class weapon, though; they choose their wielders themselves, and that's why they will protect them. In Noel's case, Bolverk was being used as a limiter to suppress her emotions and prevent her from becoming mentally unstable (something that often happens to Nox users), which is why she would turn into an emotionless doll when fighting and have little to no recollection of the battle afterwards. After the seal of said limiter was broken during the events of Continuum Shift, its effects seem to have been nullified and Noel no longer blanks out when using her weapon.

Bolverk takes a form of a pair of white guns; however, they do not fire bullets like normal guns would. Instead, it detonates an energy blast wherever it's aimed, and can even do so through the walls. With her Drive/Overdrive (a character specific ability and its strengthened version, respectively), Chain Revolver/Chain Quasar, Noel can link many of Bolverk attacks into a single string of offense. Also, in some cases, Bolverk can change its shape into different firearms, such as a machine gun or a missile.

  • Nox Nyctores - Lux Sanctus: Murakumo: Murakumo is another Nox Nyctores class weapon, though unlike Bolverk, these were created after the Dark War with the purpose of being wielded by Murakumo Units that could later be smelted into the Sword of the Godslayer, Kusanagi, and used to kill the god, Master Unit Amaterasu. When inactive, it takes a form of a giant sword; when not in use, it resides in an undefined space and can be summoned whenever at the discretion of its wielder. When activated, it changes into a battle armor. It allows Noel (as Mu-12) to fight with the eight floating blades (sometimes referred to as "petals"), as well as float in the air. When in that form, she can also use her other Drive/Overdrive (a character specific ability and a powered-up version of it, respectively), Steins Gunner and Steins Geiser, to set up orbs that shoot lasers after a short period of time or reflect the beams created by Mu herself.

  • Successor of the Azure: Upon saving Ragna at the end of Calamity Trigger, Noel was chosen as the Successor of the Azure by the God, Master Unit Amaterasu. With that, she gained powers as the Eye of the Azure, which grants her many abilities, most of which are only vaguely explained in the canon itself. First and foremost, she is able to locate Master Unit - Amaterasu (de facto god of the BlazBlue universe) within the Boundary (a world different from the one where the canon events take place, albeit connected to it via numerous Gates) and even summon her into the human world. Furthermore, she is able to "observe" anything she wishes, provided she focuses hard enough and puts her mind and heart into it. Simply put, "observing" in this case means recognizing and acknowledging the existence of something or someone, therefore allowing it to exist in the world. For example, in Chronophantasma Noel managed to observe the true form of Tsubaki's Sealed Weapon: Izayoi, thus making it possible for the latter to use its true powers. As for observing living people, she accidentally observed Yuuki Terumi at the end of Calamity Trigger, which allowed him to fuse with his host body. Additionally, Noel is capable of causing Phenomena Intervention; to keep it short, it's an ability that allows one to erase one reality and replace it with another possibility of the world. It is by that power that the world of BlazBlue gets stuck in a constant resetting loop. Another type of intervention is creating the so-called "Phantom Field", which could be described as a small dimension detached from the real world. Finally, she's shown being able to see a person's memories (usually painful ones) by coming into physical contact with them; it's not something she can control, and it's not clear what triggers it, but it has happened a number of times, like when she touched Carl or Tsubaki.

It should be noted that while Noel's powers as the Successor of the Azure are immense, her grasp on them is shaky at best. As mentioned above, her observation of Terumi was completely accidental, as she wasn't even aware of her abilities at the time. Creating a Phantom Field separated from the real world in Chronophantasma was unintended as well; most of those occur in response to Noel's emotions, and their extent is dependent on the strength of her will. She's been working hard on controlling them and is definitely getting better at it, but it's still an ongoing process.

  • Life-link: When she was smelted into the Sword of the Godslayer, Noel was given a life-link to Hazama. To put it simply, a person connected to another with it won't die unless killed exactly at the same time as the other one, and if killed alone, would soon come back to life.

  • God incarnate: Simply put, Noel is the avatar of the God creator of the BlazBlue world, known as The Origin. While The Origin's true body, along with her personality and most of her memories, are sealed within the Master Unit Amaterasu, Noel possesses most of her soul, making her technically the God who controls the world. She doesn't do so consciously, but she is, in fact, the source of the mess in the world and maintains its status quo, though she's only discovered that herself recently. Due to her godly nature, it is almost impossible to kill her ─ with the sole exception of the special Anti-Observer weapons that possess the "Immortal Breaker" ability, such as Zero-Type Izayoi.

Nerfs
When it comes to her immortality (both in the form of the life-link and, well, being a god), since the game doesn't really have permanent death anyway, I think it would be fair to consider those abilities null and void.

For her powers as Successor of the Azure, I figure "observation" itself is close enough in concept to the game's dreamotion energy that they might be considered one and the same; perhaps Noel might find herself surprisingly efficient at it faster than expected due to being somewhat used to a similar ability. Likewise, the ability to create Phantom Fields can be associated with creating an interactive dream, and would work pretty much the same. Finally, her ability to cause Phenomena Intervention is basically a godmode, so I will refrain from using this ability in game (unless the mods would be interested in running some kind of Groundhog Day Loop dreamscape with me on some occasion, in which case wink wink you know where to find me).

Inventory
Her NOL uniform, Arcus Diabolus: Bolverk (the guns pictured) and Lux Sanctus: Murakumo (the latter conveniently stored in hammerspace unless summoned).

Suitability & Plans:
Despite her meek character and nervousness in social situations, Noel is actually quite eager to talk to other people, make friends and help those in need. She will be more than happy to get to know others and join the effort to make Songerein a home for all of them. Clumsy as she is, she can be surprisingly independent and can take care of herself (cooking aside).

Additionally, Songerein's premise is an interesting reflection of Noel's own homeworld, which is by itself also a dream created from a single girl's wish. As such, interactions with the concept of a dream, the ability to share it with others and venture into dreams of other people would give her some new insight into a dream world, the way it can be constructed with cooperation and question her world, which exists solely for the sake of one person. While Noel does not have the memories of creating her world or why she structured it the way she did, I hope the experience of Songerein allows her to better understand parts of herself she's still struggling to fully accept. She tends to be scared of her own powers, so I also hope to explore her learning other characters' opinions of similar abilities (or even her own) and how they deal with them, so she can hopefully grow more comfortable with herself.

RE-APP ADDITION: On top of the above, due to a tiny canon update for this re-app, Noel has now fused with the rest of herself, but she still haven't had the time to digest all of those new information and/or memories, so that is something that could be achieved in the game. Also, on a more subconscious level, Noel miiight just be escaping into a dream (again) because fully "waking up" means her oldest brother dying, though it's not something she's fully figured out yet.

Test Drive Sample: Sample

Questions: Less of a question but more of a note: Noel will be retaining her memories from her previous stay in the game!
